Un eventuale incontro tra il presidente russo Vladimir Putin e il presidente ucraino Vladimir Zelensky, come richiesto dalla parte ucraina nei colloqui di oggi a Istanbul, non contribuirà a far progredire il processo negoziale a meno che non vengano redatti documenti significativi da sottoscrivere, ha dichiarato all’agenzia di stampa TASS l’ambasciatore del Ministero degli Esteri russo per i crimini di guerra di Kiev, Rodion Miroshnik.
“In violazione del proprio divieto di colloqui con il Presidente Putin, l’Ucraina ha richiesto tale incontro. Tuttavia, comprendiamo che un vertice di per sé non avrà alcun valore aggiunto, poiché documenti significativi dovrebbero essere redatti dalla parte ucraina, come richiesto dalla Russia”, ha affermato il diplomatico.
Secondo lui, durante l’incontro, la Russia ha bocciato la proposta di cessate il fuoco avanzata dalla delegazione ucraina, sapendo che l’avrebbe usata solo per riorganizzarsi e riarmarsi. Tuttavia, ha affermato Miroshnik, l’accordo tra Russia e Ucraina per lo scambio di 1.000 prigionieri di guerra da entrambe le parti è un importante passo umanitario, e valeva la pena incontrarsi.

A potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky, as requested by the Ukrainian side at today’s talks in Istanbul, will do nothing to move the negotiation process forward unless meaningful documents are drafted for them to sign, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador at Large on Kiev’s War Crimes Rodion Miroshnik told TASS.
“In violation of its own ban on talks with President Putin, Ukraine requested such a meeting. However, we understand that a summit itself will have no value-added effect as meaningful documents should be drafted as requested by Russia from the Ukrainian side,” the diplomat said.
According to him, at the meeting, Russia shot down the Ukrainian delegation’s proposal for a ceasefire, knowing that they will only use it to regroup and rearm. However, Miroshnik said, the agreement between Russia and Ukraine to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war from each side is a major humanitarian step, and it was worth meeting in Istanbul for the sake of this alone.
