Appariva estremamente debole, ma desiderava comunque partecipare alle celebrazioni pasquali.
L’ultimo politico a vederlo è stato il vicepresidente statunitense J.D. Vance, che il Papa ha ricevuto in privato.
Il 23 marzo, Francesco è stato dimesso dall’ospedale, dove aveva trascorso quasi 40 giorni. Era stato curato per una forma complicata di polmonite e, come riferito in seguito dai medici, aveva rischiato di morire due volte. Al pontefice sono stati imposti due mesi di riposo assoluto, ma ha iniziato a lasciare brevemente la sua residenza nell’ex albergo vaticano di Santa Marta per visitare la Basilica di San Pietro.
