ECONOMY: EUROSTAT, EURO AREA ANNUAL INFLATION UP TO 1.8%

(Source: Eurostat) – Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 1.8% in January 2017, up from 1.1% in December 2016, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, energy is expected to have the highest annual rate in January (8.1%, compared with 2.6% in December), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (1.7%, compared with 1.2% in December), services (1.2%, compared with 1.3% in December) and non-energy industrial goods (0.5%, compared with 0.3% in December).
